Just received an e-mail that Master Chief John Luko has passed away of a heart attack on 3 Nov. 2012.  I thought a lot of old shipmates would like to know.

Sad news. I thought of John often, wondering what ever happened to him, and some of my other shipmates. Worked with him in Mount 51.  Bob Kilp

John was a great shipmate, a little eccentric but that is to be expected from some who grows up in northern Minnesota (I know as I grew up in southern Minnesota).  He could always be counted on in any situation on-board or on the beach.  He will be missed by all who knew him.

This is sad news.  I remember John well from our deployment to Southeast Asia in 1972-3. He was a hard working, smart second class petty officer at the time.  As G division officer, I counted on him, along with the full Gunnery team to be the best there could be.  And they always were.

Fair Winds and Following Seas John.  Peace be with you.
