Pat, I don't remember us being in San Diego with the ship. Didn't we steam down from Bremerton to Mare Island and from there to Pearl? I don't remember how long it took us. about all I remember of the trip was the flying fish that landed on the deck.

Wes , as well as I remember , after we left Bremerton we went to Vallejo , California to load our missiles and then went to 32nd street to load our 5 inch armament.
I remember the work partys passing along those 70 pound bullets and the heavy powder cannisters . I don't know how many of em we carried but it was a shitload .
I also remember the flying fish on deck and the phosphorous water in the evenings .
That salt smell in the air is something we will all always remember . I guess I'm luckier than some of you cause I still get to smell it alot .

Pat, I've only seen the ocean twice since I got out in 67. Sure was nice to smell it again though. I don't remember a lot of the details of our trip after we left Bremerton. I do remember the work party though.
